Genes Can Be Overcome With Exercise

Though people can be genetically predisposed to obesity, a study shows that this can be overcome with exercise. University of Maryland researchers studied the DNA, lifestyles and physical characteristics of 704 Amish adults. Those who had the mutated gene that is linked to obesity were not obese if they engaged in regular physical activity. This news comes as a surprise for those who believed that if genetics were involved in obesity that no amount of exercise would help them overcome their disposition for it.

Exercise is vital to any weight loss program. A healthy diet alone doesn’t produce the calorie deficit needed in order to achieve a healthy weight. Likewise, exercising but not adjusting eating habits is also not enough, as not all calories are the same and the body uses different types of calories for different things. If you are looking for the kind of quick weight loss that will help keep you motivated, it’s important to combine a healthy diet with a sensible exercise program.

Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Lean meats are alright, as long as you keep portions under control. Drinking plenty of water helps with cravings and can make you feel fuller longer. If hunger is an issue, you might want to consider a natural appetite suppressant like hoodia. It is a popular one, as it doesn’t have the same jittery side effects as over the counter diet pills that are loaded with harmful stimulants.

The goal of appetite control is not starvation, but to create a large enough energy deficit to produce results. Exercise is vital to this process because without it, metabolism will drop and your body will simply adjust to the drop in calories by burning less energy.
